Veterans benefits after a loss

8 min read

Honorably discharged veterans are eligible for several benefits after death:

Burial in a national cemetery at no cost, including the burial plot, opening and closing, a headstone or marker, and a burial flag.

A burial allowance ($300–$2,000+ depending on circumstances) toward funeral expenses.

Survivor benefits for eligible spouses and dependents (Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, Survivors Pension).

You'll need the veteran's DD-214 (discharge papers) to apply for any of these.

A Final Wishes Concierge can prepare and file the applications on your family's behalf.
