This is the full picture, organized by week. Do not try to do it all at once.
Week 1: certified death certificates (order 10–15), funeral arrangements, immediate family notifications, secure the home and pets.
Week 2: notify the deceased's employer, contact life insurance providers, locate the will, identify the executor, notify Social Security.
Month 1: open probate if required, inventory accounts and debts, notify banks and credit card companies, redirect mail, file final tax considerations with an accountant.
Months 2–6: settle outstanding bills, transfer or close accounts, distribute assets per the will, file final tax returns, close out subscriptions and memberships.
A Final Wishes Concierge handles many of these directly on Family Coordination and Complete Concierge packages.
